Cell Phone Ending
After having his cell phone run over, I have been searching the internet to try and find hs kid some kind of phone to put his sim card into. I talked to four ATT reps who all had very expensive solutions to the problem. I bowled league this morning and talked to fellow bowlers and between all them they were confident that they could rustle up an ATT branded phone they were no longer using. Just for the heck of it I stopped at ATT store and that rep pitched the same expensive options. As we were discussing the problem he said, who is the phone for, as if this mattered? I said a careless teenage boy. He said, oh, well then why don't you just buy him a cheap GO phone from Walmart and put his sim card in it. I said that will work? He said sure. Arg! Why wasn't this offered as a solution in my many minutes on the phone with customer service? Since this is a temporary solution, I got the cheapest phone they had, which was a candy bar style nokia for 18.99. The funny thing is, it comes with tetris, pacman, and galaga, the full versions, all games hs kid has been nagging me to let him download on his now crunched beyond recognition phone. I slapped his sim card in, plugged the phone in and voila, the onslaught of three days of text messages hit the phone at an alarming rate. He's good to go. Such a bummer ATT couldn't have been more helpful. And even if we end up getting him something different if I run across a deal, it will be nice to have a back up phone on hand in case something happens to one of our other phones. A happy ending.

Cell Phone
So Austin has officially become the second kid to leave his cell phone somewhere on the outside of the car. Roof, bumper, does it really matter where? When Jordan did it, he last remembered putting it on the roof. We drove all through the neighborhood, and even walked the ditches for a mile to no avail. Today, when Austin did it, he was in the vehicle in front of me and his phone was on that bumper. So I got to behold the beauty of his cell phone tumbling end over end, sparkling gloriously in the crisp fall air, before landing on the street in front of my car. At which point two things happened: One, it put on quite a show splitting apart into three different directions, and Two, I believe I actually heard my billfold gasp and give a little cry of pain. I turned my vehicle around so I could retrieve the phone and recover the sim card. Of course, the phone happened to be lying in the middle of a pretty busy street. Also, I was now on the other side of the median, from where the phone carcass was lying. I could see the phone actually looked like it might have survived. What I had seen splitting apart was actually the battery cover, battery, and the phone body. The phone body looked good to me and I was hopeful. Just as I was going to step out and get the phone, a truck came roaring through the intersection, swerved a little to line up with the phone, and ran it over. I kid you not, and I would probably stand in a court of law and tell you the driver knew exactly what I was doing, and exactly what he was doing. What an a#@! And after coming home I discovered that ATT customer service is closed on Sunday. So no resolution as yet. On the plus side, I do think I broke my number of swear words used in under 30 seconds record. So there is that...
